The Thrill Is Gone…

Posted on Friday, June 26th, 2009 by Crystal

Fans pay tribute to MJ at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. His first performance here (at just nine years old) in 1969 with his brothers as The Jackson 5 crowned them the winners of Amateur Night.

Thursday afternoon proved to be the loss of a legend, King of Pop, beloved MJ. Whatever you called Michael Jackson, one thing was sure, there was nobody else that could Beat It like him. I mean, even Billie Jean loved the man. No other artist has show stopped like Michael; and the stream of YouTube videos, news coverage, and the like aren’t letting us quickly forget the passing of our one-gloved icon. Though he only lived to 50 his music will definitely out live his most dedicated fans and ruthless critics. He moon walked his way right into our hearts like a Smooth Criminal.

A Shopper’s Diary

The streets of New York City don’t tell a tale of economic crisis. Walking through mid town you’d think there’s a fat fed check sitting in your mail box (oooh and maybe the neighbors’ too). Big apple fashion addicts were out shopping for, well, everything. Some laugh in the face of recession while others are clinging to their blue suede shoes in hopes of buying the bag to match. Either way they were out and about finding something to quench their apparel thirst.

This group of Baltimore natives hits the stores at least once or twice a week in search of stand out accessories. They say the item flying off the shelves is sunglasses. I mean, look at theirs, it’s obvious they know where the good ones are.

Because Life Requires Music

Posted on Monday, June 22nd, 2009 by Crystal

Forget about carrying an MP3 player, losing it, or dropping it; well at least for men. Now you can listen to your favorite tunes on a tie clip. … Yeah, I said that too. Designer Jin Woo Han knows that life should be simple, convenient and, most importantly, have constant background music. A tie clip with an LCD screen, play/stop buttons, flash memory and earphone jack pretty much encompasses the idea. Just don’t forget to take out your earphones at the office.

Thanks SwipeLife for the in.

Mystery Man Banksy

Posted on Friday, June 19th, 2009 by Crystal

Banksy is an English artist more undercover than an FBI agent. Even his birth name is a mystery. And good luck on sending a birthday card; was it 1974? ‘75? … Is he real? This graffiti writing and stenciling talent focuses his work on satire, politics and culture. You may never be able to shake his hand but you’ll sure enjoy his unconventional work like anarchist rats and homicidal ATM machines. And if you happen to be in the U.K., check out his exhibit at Bristol Museum now until August 31st. Mystery man isn’t a penny squeezer either, you can see his crazy pieces for free.

Moms Get Graphic

Posted on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 by Crystal

Through all the spitting up, pooping, and crying kids somehow remain the beacon of all things adorable. Striving to preserve the “Aww!” and “How precious” responses of a puppy eyed public, moms dress their little ones in equally cute threads. So what message would proud moms plaster on their bundles of joy? Some admit they’ve thought about it before. If nothing else a t-shirt can inspire the sense of humor some mommy’s lose amongst the diapers and baby wipes.

Ashley, mom of Teddy prefers “Poop Happens” a spoof off of a popular adult phrase. Or “I Might Barf” a warning for the rest of the world at her sons’ habit.

Can’t Touch This

If this isn’t the cleverest way to introduce a new piece of clothing I don’t know what is. Maybe I’m just biased because they’re dancing. As for the pants in mainstream fashion, you be the judge. Europe has been voting Hammer pants into every realm of fierceness for months, but what’s the verdict in the good ole U.S.A.? After all, who better to judge than you stylish of Cut & Sewn?..

If you’re not ready for all that, try out the Harem pant. It has a similar cut but with less volume, and less bust-a-move incentive.

Music for the Soul… and Feet

Posted on Friday, June 12th, 2009 by Crystal

If you thought you knew what a one man show was, you don’t! Swedish singer Theresa Andersson is redefining everything about being a solo artist with her fancy foot work and gadgets producing the hottest new sound out there. Get this, she makes all her own music in the corner of her kitchen!

Theresa moved to New Orleans in 1990 with a band but is proving that her feet are the only band necessary. Well, that and these things called loop pedals to fabricate a track of sounds and vocals that makes you tilt your head to the side and slightly squint, secretly wish you were her, and wonder how she does it. In the mean time you’ll be tapping your own feet to her blissfully energetic music. Seriously. See for yourself.

Granted this chick has got it goin’ on, there is one major thing wrong with this picture. Where is her Cut & Sewn tee? We’ll see if she can wear one on her next video maybe in the living room, you know, one that could rock her socks off… oh wait, she’s not wearing any.

The Recession Vacation.

Posted on Saturday, June 6th, 2009 by Francesca

Truth be told the economy has butchered our near future. We all have either lost our job or are working ourselves to the ground dying to keep it.

Our entitled vacation has become a selfish request and we no longer can look forward to the anual travel agents, plane and tourist tickets.

Lego has a plan. Getting their own company out of near bankruptcy, they have come up with a way to put all of that college Art History to use.

Travel to India in your living room, Lego has come with out an architecture series of Lego products beginning with the Taj Mahal. Next to come is a Frank Lloyd Wright set.  Build your own Guggenheim while eating a cheeseburger and not lifting a leg!  A perfect excuse to still play with Legos.

Remember VH-1’s Pop Up Videos?

One of the Cut Crew found a tube that brings a more insightful interpreted version to the music video. You know every word to this song, it’s my default Karaoke song, and now it’s time to watch the music video. Bonnie Tyler and her tactics entertain us for 5 minutes.
